From user problem to shortlist
Research begins with a room and task, not a retailer category. We define brightness, placement, control, installation, connectivity, safety, and ownership criteria before looking for products.
A shortlist records why each model is relevant, what evidence exists, what remains unknown, and which alternatives were excluded. Popularity or commission rate is not a selection method.
Specification and merchant verification
Exact model numbers are checked against official documentation when available. Light output, CCT, CRI, connectivity, power, dimensions, installation, warranty, and app requirements remain marked unknown when evidence is insufficient.
Merchant links are separate from article prose. Current price, stock, seller, ratings, delivery, and Prime status are not manually copied from Amazon. Buyers are told to verify seller, shipping source, condition, returns, warranty, price, and delivery at the retailer.
Context-specific scoring
Lumen Hush does not use one universal score. Night-light scoring emphasizes minimum brightness, glare, sensors, outlet design, and room fit. Ambient scoring emphasizes light quality, diffusion, dimming, installation, scenes, and reliability. Smart scoring emphasizes setup, local control, cloud dependence, ecosystem support, outage recovery, and firmware support.
Trees add assembly, width, fullness, stability, branch strength, lighting repair, ornament capacity, packed size, and storage. Wreaths and garlands add proportion, attachment, fullness, battery access, exposure, and repacking. Projectors and inflatables add coverage, clarity, wind, noise, anchoring, cable routes, and storage volume.
Construction and safety observations remain separate: adapter, cable, connector, materials, heat, mounting, certification-claim status, warranty, and recall status. Every score requires visible reasoning.
Updates and affiliate independence
Reviews are revisited when model numbers, apps, firmware, warranties, sellers, recalls, or meaningful alternatives change. A substantive change receives an updated date and visible note.
Editorial conclusions are set before merchant placement. Affiliate availability can change where a user clicks; it cannot change what the evidence says.
